Just a quick reminder of how tonights Euro 2008 Qualifiers affect England, who have 1 game left to play, against Croatia on Wednesday.
If Russia lose to Israel, England only need a draw on Wednesday to qualify.
If Russia draw with Israel, then England must beat Croatia to qualify.
The only way England can qualify if Russia lose to Israel, is if Croatia lose to Macedonia, but then England still have to beat Israel by 3 goals on Wednesday, or 2 without conceding.
There are actually more permutations, but they all rely on Russia dropping points against Andorra, which seeing as Andorra are on zero points in the group, and have lost their last 28 qualifying games, is practically impossible.
Do I think they’ll make it?To be honest, no! And I wouldn’t be that bothered either, although it would be a bit of a shame.
Actually, looking at it now, England only need a point and they’re through, so I’d probably back them at home with a packed Wembley behind them.
