Diouf to return home early

Diouf will be returning to Bolton earlier than expected after Senegal failed to progress from the group stage of the African Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile Gary Cahill (left) has been talking about why he chose to move to Bolton:

There were a few clubs interested, which flattered me. It’s nice to have a choice as to where you move to.

When I came here, I met the gaffer and had a good chat with him. I had a look around the ground and the training ground, and just got a general feel for the place. It was the place I wanted to be.

I felt that if I was going to make a change and a fresh start then I should cut all ties, which was the best thing for me.

I met with (Alex) McLeish and he did everything he could to get me there to be honest - it was nothing to do with not wanting to move across the border; he said all the right things but at the end of the day it was a decision I made myself.

I don’t want to be playing Championship football next season and I’m sure the rest of the lads here don’t want to be doing that.

It’s the aim now for the Club to stay in the division and I think we’re more than capable of doing that. It would be a tragedy if we went down. We’ve got Premier League players here not Championship players and that’s the reason why I came on board.

At the minute, the bottom half of the table is that tight and we’re right there in it, but no-one has got a crystal ball. I just felt like the quality was stronger at Bolton with the players they’ve got here.
