Two first-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo handed Man Utd an expected win against Bolton last night, but it was a much better performance than against Wigan. Tomasz Kuszczak was forced into some good saves - one a 30 yard effort from Nicky Hunt, who was brought on at half time for the struggling Meite. Ali Al-Habsi also had a good performance in the Wanderers goal but was unable to stop the Portugese winger’s double giving United the three points.
We worked the goalkeeper on a few occasions and had two efforts ruled out. It’s still disappointing to lose 2-0. There are things there to give us cause for optimism but only if we replicate them in the eight remaining games.
I would be encouraged if we produce every performance since I became manager, apart from the first half at Wigan.
