An injury time equaliser from Matty Taylor at Stamford Bridge broke Chelsea’s hearts and effectively won the title for Man Utd.
Fulham also completed an incredible recovery, securing safety with a 1-0 win at Pompey which sent Birmingham and Reading down, despite Reading’s 4-0 thumping of Derby. Everton get 5th and thus a UEFA Cup spot, Villa have an Intertoto place and despite losing 8-1 and having a man sent off, Man City grab the extra UEFA Cup spot through the Fair Play league.

Wanderers defended solidly throughout, and were unlucky to go behind from substitute Schevchenko’s mis-hit shot just after the hour mark. Al Habsi was massive in goal as Chelsea attacked for 90 minutes, but Taylor fired the ball through Petr Cech’s legs in injury time to end Chelsea’s dream of another Premier League title.
Bolton finish in 16th place, a great turnaround with the last 5 games unbeaten. We have a truly solid defence, now we just need some strikers!
We wanted to come here and win the game, but we’re not stupid - we know the kind of players they’ve got, and what we’ve got going for us. So we needed to make it a tight game, and in the first half we certainly did that.
Whilst a win would have been fantastic - the first team to get a result here in however many years would have been great - but it wasn’t to be.
We wanted to get something from the game, which actually did happen. We had to make sure we didn’t put in a poor performance, then catch fire and them end up beating us by a cricket score.
If that had happened, you know how the other results went. We had to be aware of those things.
