Johan Elmander has revealed why he chose to come to Bolton, citing “fantastic pay” among his reasons - not something you usually associate with Bolton!
The Swede says he is pleased to know that he will be playing first-team football instead of being payed to sit on the bench. He was impressed by Gary Megson’s eagerness to sign him and says that he has now “found a club who truly believe in me and where I can get a fantastic pay.” Maybe the last bit’s a typo, or maybe Gartside & Davies have decided to invest a little more in the club after the shock they must have got last season with Sammy Lee’s bunch of free transfers!
There were other clubs I could have joined and what has been written has been quite correct [presumably it has been written that he could have joined a much better club than Bolton], but I preferred to play rather than being paid for sitting on the bench.
It means a lot that Gary took the time to meet me. It was a truly positive meeting. He talked about my role and how he wants the team to play. I am extremely pleased.
I have now found a club who truly believe in me and where I can get a fantastic pay.
