Dutch winger Mustapha Riga has signed for Bolton, although he is likely not to feature in any pre-season matches because of a delay in international clearance (whatever that means). Ghana-born Riga can also play as a striker but Gary Megson is keen to bring in another striker to partner Johan Elmander, with Israeli hitman Elyaniv Barda rumoured to be a possible target.
Meanwhile El-Hadji Diouf has completed his move to Sunderland. Diouf says he wants a new challenge, and that hopes of reaching Europe with Sunderland are no less likely than with Bolton when he joined in 2005. Diouf left for £2.5million, which seems like daylight robbery on our part for a player named in a FIFA list of 125 greatest living footballers in 2004.
West Brom have also raised their bid for defender Abdoulaye Meite to £1.5million, which still falls short of Bolton’s £2million valuation, while ex-Wanderer Tal Ben-Haim has signed for Man City.
